Colorado State Law mandates all Sheriff’s Offices within the State maintain a Civil Unit. The Civil Unit is responsible for the service of all civil papers received by the Sheriff’s Office. The Civil Unit also executes all court orders involving civil process issued by the Courts, to include the collection of money and/or seizure of property, as prescribed by law.

Civil Service papers may be brought to the Sheriff’s Office or mailed along with prepayment of the service fee. Make sure to include all information you have about the party to be served, if you are having an inmate served at one of the correctional facilities please also include which facility and the DOC number. Also include with the papers to be served a self addressed stamped envelope and a good contact number for yourself.

Civil Process Service Fees

In a civil action, the following are $35.00+mileage

In a criminal action, the following are $15.00+mileage

Summons, Orders, Complaints, Writs, Motions, Restraining Orders, Foreclosures, and Notices.

Civil Subpoenas $30.00+ mileage (attempted but not served $10.00+mileage)

Criminal Subpoenas $7.50+ mileage (attempted but not served $5.00+mileage)

Execution of Writ of Restitution $60.00+mileage – THIS WILL BE SUBJECT TO SCHEDULING.

Any papers not covered on the list will be $35.00 civil. $15.00 criminal.

.50 cents a mile outside of Ordway.

In the town of Sugar City 5 miles $2.50

In the town of Crowley 5 miles $2.50

In the town of Olney Springs 12 miles $6.00

AVCF mileage $2.50

CCCF mileage $6.50

Attempted but not served $10.00+mileage

When you have a paper from the $35 list and a paper from the $15 list, the charge is $35+mileage (example summons &, petition $35+mileage)
